In contributing to achieve the national goal of “Health for all”, the Department of Community Medicine imparts community oriented teaching for MBBS students so as to produce “competent physicians of first contact” and also a skilled and motivated basic doctor. Department has well developed interesting laboratories set up with daily usage materials for teaching and training students for better understanding of community oriented subject knowledge. Department has many community oriented practice of skills and attitude for students. Field practice areas for the MBBS students have been developed in the Pulipakkam village and in Anna nagar, Chengalpattu where the Rural Health Training Centre and Urban Health Training Centre are functioning respectively. The Rural Health Training Centre in Pulipakkam has accommodation and mess facilities for the students, resident doctor and the staff nurse, in order to provide round the clock service for the local population.

Education – through the provision and development of educational programs for residents, medical students, allied health professionals, undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students in Cancer Biology and other areas of basic, translational and clinical science, practising health professionals and the public at large.

Research – Through the development of new knowledge in basic, translational and clinical sciences, health policy, outcome-based research and health education.

Clinical Care – through the development, maintenance and practice of knowledge and outcome, based medicine in the subspecialty of pathology and through interactive programs and practice which improve medical practice and patient outcome for all patients served by KIMS.
